SMCHC Clinic Addition
Challenge:
The clinic needed an addition that didn’t look like an addition. During construction, we discovered moisture damage at the base of existing metal studs, which posed a structural challenge. We also needed to add insulation to improve energy efficiency and redesign the check-in area to offer more privacy without losing visibility and openness. All of this needed to be completed while keeping the facility operational.
Solution:
We phased construction to allow the clinic to remain open and operational, and the final result is a seamless addition that truly looks like it was part of the original design—mission accomplished! The structural solution preserved the integrity of the existing walls, and the added insulation will improve comfort and energy efficiency. We also reimagined the check-in areas with a stair-stepped layout that offers increased privacy for patient conversations while maintaining staff visibility for safety and support. The clinic is now better equipped to serve the community with expanded services and a more thoughtful layout.
